The Carnival in the parish of Maia is something different than the practiced either in the remainder island, either in other parts of the world.

 

Daily, masked youths with various costumes walk into the streets of the parish. At night it is time to "pantas" (young costumed with a sheet imitating ghosts) come out to the streets. This event combines fun and tradition.
