Heritage

In the nineteenth century water supply was made in public fountains. They were crucial for cooking, feeding animals, body wash and water the gardens. Water transportation was performed by donkeys and horses. But, many times, by women and children. Water was then kept home in pots.


In addition, laundry was performed at local fountains: Fonte Velha (improved in 1936) and Ribeira do Calhau. The clothes were dried in the sun to reduce the weight. In the rainy days, dried inside regional barns, near the wood store.
